- Over the past year there have been discussions taking place to have An Sailean, the tidal salt marsh creek at the west end of Ardmucknish Bay, designated by the local council as a Local Nature Reserve. The council were approached by the land owner, Lochnell Estate, and, with their factors, began a preliminary consultation with neigbouring landowners, Argyll and Bute Planning officers, Scottish Natural Heritage, Community Council and Scottish Wildlife Trust.
- As the Lorn Plan revisions were in progress there was motivation to get outline agreement to allow a provisional allocation of the area for special interest to be incorporated. The boundary of the land belonging to the estate was defined and will be in the revised plans going out for public comment in the summer of 2006
- From the meetings in late winter it was agreed to ask Ardchattan Community Council to be the grant applicant for the time being and that the Local Biodiversity officer would guide them in what they needed to do.
- The first major stage was to arrange a open workshop for the local community to see the plans for the reserve and allow them to comment. If the proposal was favourable then it was hoped that interested local people would form a group to help take the project forward.
That is where information is being collected together before being added to this part of the site.
Every little bit of help is welcome. The more people there are involved the sooner we get some of the magic of this great parish captured and shared.
