20.5.6 Various.
Copies mostly by Hutton 1815-16, 1819-21, of groups and collections of documents at Lochnell House (ff.9-31, 44), in the possession of Robert Campbell of Ardchattan (ff.32-43) and of William Rose of Montcoffer (ff.65-80, 83-90, 95), and at Panmure (ff.154-255), followed by extracts from manuscripts at the British Museum (ff.256-47).
The documents copied range from 1294 to 1602 (many being of the sixteenth century), with several undated, and refer to transactions quite frequently of land tenure in various parts of the country; but many seem to have little relevance to ecclesiastical antiquities.
For transcripts by R.A.Hay of some of the documents transcribed at ff.144, 152-65, 170-5, 181, 188-93, see ff.70-73v. (passim), 75.

Title Murray of Stanhope
Date 17th century-18th century
Extent 7 volumes
Description Correspondence and papers of the Murrays of Stanhope.
The great majority relate to Sir Alexander, the 3rd Baronet (died 1743), and to his brother Charles, Collector of Customs at Bo'ness and de jure 5th Baronet (died 1770), although there are a few of their brother James, of Sir William, the 1st Baronet (died, 1689), and of Sir David, the 2nd baronet (died 1729). The family were Jacobites, and there is some correspondence of Sir Alexander with other participants in the Rebellion of 1715. Apart from this, and from internal family correspondence, the subjects are almost exclusively financial - the brothers' frequent embarrassments, and the management, in which Charles took a large share, of their estates in Peeblesshire, in Ardnamurchan (bought in 1726 from Sir Duncan Campbell of Lochnell, in order to develop the lead mines at Strontian) and in lslay (leased from Daniel Campbell of Shawfield, again for the sake of the mineral wealth). The family estates in Peeblesshire and in Argyllshire were forfeited in 1767.

Vol.1 The contents include: a letter from the Duke of Rothes to Sir William, 1676; two letters of Sir David, 1710, 1721; correspondence of Sir Alexander with other members of the family (including his brothers Charles, James, and David, his sister Veronica and her husband, Robert Hunter of Polmood; and his uncle, Major William Murray), and with Sir
Duncan Campbell of Lochnell
, Donald Campbell of Octomore and other Campbells, 1715-1740.
ol. II Correspondence of Sir Alexander with members of the nobility, the Landed Gentry, and the army, with his legal adviser, William Lumsden, and with various people concerning the Argyllshire estates, and miscellaneous memoranda, 1711-1742. A letter of Alexander Pennicuik is printed in James Maidment, 'Catalogue of Scottish Writers', Edinburgh, 1833, p139.
Vol. III The contents include: correspondence of Sir Alexander arising from the Rebellion of 1715 and concerning the Argyllshire Estates, 1709-1736.
